Orlando Warriors Rugby Win Bronze

The Orlando Warriors rugby team won the bronze medal at the Florida Sunshine State Games held in Fort Lauderdale this past weekend. Finishing third in the state for this club of high school students was quite a feat considering the level of competition from around the state. The Warriors have been officially practicing as a team for only about 4 months.

The head coach of the team, Jeremy Humphries, who played rugby himself for Auburn University, was very pleased with the performance of his players. “We struggled a bit in the first game of the series, but after that we really pulled together as a team. I was proud of the guys, and I see a lot of potential with the Warriors as we develop our skills even more,” he said.

Their next tournament will be Sarasota sometime in July. In the meantime, Coach Humphries is negotiating with Winter Park High to get rugby recognized as an official club sport. He is also looking for new players and plans to grow the sport in the Central Florida area at the high school level.
